Darjeeling, the Queen of the Hills, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and oldest hill stations of India from the colonial era. One of the major attractions is Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR). Some believe that the name Darjeeling was derived from two words: “Dorjey”, which means thunderbolt and “Linga” which means place or land, i.e. “The Land of Thunderbolt”. Although, the history is quite old, 1835 is considered to be the landmark year for this place when East India Company made an acquisition of Darjeeling. The altitude of Darjeeling is 2,042 meters (6700 ft.) above mean sea level. Temperature here is quite pleasant throughout the year with winter have chilly wind coming in directly from the Kanchenjunga range. The highest point of Darjeeling is Tiger Hill, which situated at 2,590 meter above mean sea level and is a great view point for watching sunrise. Sikkim, on the other hand waits for you with its endless beauty. One of those rare states of India, where you would find different landscapes in three different parts, i.e. Northern, Eastern and Western part of Sikkim. The sky-touching snow-capped peaks of middle and upper Himalayan range mesmerize and overwhelm its visitors from every aspects!
