Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 meters/24,836 ft) is the highest mountain in Bhutan and one of the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Thimpu from Paro airport
- Arrive at Paro Airport
- Start for Thimphu (65 KM from Paro. Altitude 7,710 ft.), the capital city of Bhutan.
- On arrival check-in to the hotel.
- Evening explore the Thimpu town by walk. Overnight stay at Thimphu.
Day 2: Thimpu local sightseeing
- After breakfast first visit The Great Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang
- Visit National Memorial Chorten (Buddhist monuments) and Folk Heritage Museum.
- Afternoon visit Sangaygang View Point, Changangkha Monastery, Takin Preserve Centre.
- In the evening visit Tashichho Dong (Fortress of the Glorious Religion).
- Overnight stay at Thimphu.
Day 3: Thimpu to Punakha
- After breakfast drive to Punakha/Wangdue
- On the way Stop at Dochu-La-Pass (3,150 meter) to experience the upper Himalayas.
- Check-in to hotel on arrival at Punakha.
- Visit Punakha Dzong – built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. For many years until the time of the second king, it served as the seat of the Government. The Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Chechen Phodrang.
- After that take a short and easy hike to visit the Chhimi Lhakhang. This temple, also known as “The Temple of Fertility” was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, “The Divine Mad Man”.
- Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay at Punakha/Wangdue.
Day 4: Punakha-Paro sightseeing
- After breakfast drive to Paro (7,483 ft.).
- On the way stop at Lamperi to visit Royal Botanical Park.
- On arrival check in at the hotel.
- Afternoon visit Ta Dzong: National Museum with an excellent collection of arts, relics, religious thangka, etc.
- Visit Rinpung Dzong (fortress of the heap of jewels). The Dzong now serves as the administrative and Judicial seat of Paro.
- Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 5: Paro sightseeing
- After breakfast hike for 2 hours to the famous Taktsang Monastery, commonly called the “Tiger’s Nest”
- Later visit Drukgyel Dzong and Kyichu Monastery. Overnight stay at Paro
Day 6: Paro airport
After breakfast check out from hotel and reach Paro Airport for your onward journey.
